VALLEY OF FIRE: The Valley of Fire is a stunning state park that is a short drive from Las Vegas. Google Maps, All Trails and the official trail names do not match up. Many of the trail names are confusing around Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte. The top of the butte sits at 1,499 m, and the incredible view from the rock makes it a popular hiking destination. Location: Village of Oak Creek Red Rock Pass: You will need to purchase a Red Rock Pass to do this hike. (Turn left if you wish to climb the route, marked with cairns, up the formation.). As the trail forks, stick to the right side and youll enter a creek bed or wash. Thinking smart lets you take pictures of the incredible scenery like I did. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. Those with mobility challenges and very young kids may struggle.
Courthouse Butte Loop Hiking Trail near Sedona, Arizona Stick to the right side as the trail splits one final time, hugging closely to the side of Bell Rock. (Both of these trails can be used to reach the Bell Rock Vista Trailhead.) The turn is a short distance beyond Yavapai Point Vista. Coconino National Forest - Bell Rock Pathway / Vista This flat loop around massive Courthouse Butte takes you to two interesting rock formations: Bell Rock (a well-known landmark and purported vortex site) and Spaceship Rock (hidden and under-appreciated). Its less about temperatures and busy trails, more about finding free parking spots. If you arrive later than 7am you can expect to be in a line waiting for spaces to open up. Nice trail, well defined, and plenty of signage to keep you going the correct route. This description describes the hike in a clock-wise direction starting at the Courthouse Vista trailhead. Bell Rock is one of the 4 most powerful vortexes in Sedona. Not too many people although we started relatively early. There were spots at 6:45 a when we arrived, but none by 8:30 on a Sunday morning. There arent really any landmarks to use as reference points on the far side of Courthouse Butte until you reach two flat topped domes. More scrambling than anticipated. Courthouse Loop - The Wanderer's Guide PRO TRAVEL TIP: Before you turn left and start the loop, take a good look around at your surroundings (and even snap a few photos) so you recognize this spot when you complete the loop and know how to return to the parking area. The first option continues straight ahead on the Courthouse Butte Loop, which reaches a junction with the Bell Rock Pathway in 0.3 miles. We saved the Bell Rock climb for the end of the hike. Large agave plants and cacti line your trail as you head left towards Bell Rock. My preferred option is to turn right (north) on the Rector Connector trail for a more scenic return to the Courthouse Vista trailhead. For the first part of the hike, we were walking directly towards the sun (dont forget your sunglasses!) Once on the eastern side of the loop you will have great views of Courthouse Butte. This trail is suitable for all skill levels and ages. We stayed for a few hours and took it all in. Note: There is little shade along the trail, making this a very hot hike in the summer. You can look down on the Courthouse Butte Loop Trail you just walked and the Village of Oak Creek is visible from this height. Its a relatively flat hike so its great for all ages and ability levels. Sedona is incredibly popular and there are often issues getting parked up at trailheads. We hiked almost 5 miles.

Soon the path emerges onto open meadows with fine views of the Butte. Apparently, the names were swapped to more closely match the shapes of the rocks. To finish the hike, retrace your steps down Bell Rock and back to your car. Well marked.

Trail was marked to a certain point then if you wanted to go higher you basically had to rock climb. The Courthouse Butte Loop Trail is about 4 miles long. This one is just okay compared to other routes in the area, but worth checking it out for those that are beginner to intermediate and download the right map in advance.
